![]() £1.6 MILLION INVESTMENT ANNOUNCED FOR EMCC The East Midlands Conference Centre, still the only purpose built conference centre in the East Midlands region, has announced plans to further upgrade its facilities and service offer. In total, £1.6 million will be spent on the venue with work expected to start early in the New Year – a marvellous birthday present for EMCC which is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2005. The news has created a buzz of excitement and expectation amongst managers and staff at EMCC. Kirstie Danzey, Marketing Manager, explains: “The venue has great plans for this investment which will significantly upgrade facilities and add further value to a service offer already held in high regard in he sector. “The greater part of the investment will be spent on the auditorium, the second largest space in the building, which will be completely refurbished to a higher aesthetic level with improved seating, flooring and decoration. Then the work will start on installation of state-of-the-art audio visual and technical equipment complete with intelligent lighting system. “It will transform the auditorium into a unique venue in the region and one with particular appeal for clients needing the latest in media presentation support. “We are already receiving enquiries from clients that have heard rumours of the refurbishment and so the sales team here is preparing themselves for what will certainly be a busy summer.” The investment will also be used to extend the kitchen, allowing The Centre to increase its plated-service capacity. Kirstie continues: “The demand for venues that provide extensive banqueting facilities, without compromise on service and quality is on the rise. We intend to be able to answer that need but on our own terms and to our own standards. And in addition to the new clients that this extended service will attract we can also better service those customers that return to us with their business year after year and which have effectively grown with us over time.” A further £4.5m, over the next few years, will be spent on a continued refurbishment programme for the University of Nottingham's Halls of Residence. A priority will be to increase the bathroom to bedroom ratio and keep the accommodation offer refreshed and comfortable. The 3000 bedrooms available on the main campus alone are in heavy demand from residential conference clients throughout vacation periods. EMCC attracts, on average, 100,000 conference delegates a year to the city and county – delegates that also invest in the local hotels, restaurants, bars and range of tourist attractions. The venue has long been a vocal and visible ambassador for the city and the region, building an exceptionally strong customer base with a rising trend of repeat business accounting for 53% of total turnover.
